Roshan and Maria

That’s my wife, Maria and son, Roshan. We live in Sydney, Australia. We have been living here since 2000. Before that we used to live in Auckland, NZ. My son was born in Sydney and so he is an Australian – we sometimes have arguments about which team to support for Cricket and Rugby!

Story of Digital Armour

Maria and I started our business Digital Armour, in 2002. Why, you ask. It may make more sense if I explain how we came about starting this business.

In Auckland I used to be lecturer in marketing. Like everywhere in the world, all the teachers get paid peanuts but as a lecturer I had more time at my disposal. So, I used to consult small businesses – some for free and some for a fee.  Maria used to say that I had a lot of business knowledge but I was not putting to use and that we should do something significant. I moved on from my teaching position to working in the industry again. I worked for large companies and started feeling frustrated with the bureaucracy and a lot more things.  Maria has technical background and we used to wonder with her technical skills and my business skills we should start a technology business.

We realised that if we wait for an appropriate time to start something, the right time will never arrive. With my experience in working with small to medium sized businesses, I proposed that we do something that will help for the SMBs. We finally arrived at providing IT Support for the SMBs. From our research we realised that SMBs have the same challenges in their businesses just like the large corporates but don’t have the budget. We believed that we would be able to make a difference in the SMBs.  So, both of us quit our jobs and started Digital Armour.

Imagine this: from 6 figure incomes to zero income in one day; no contacts in this new country; very little savings and the economy was in recession (not as bad a recession as it is now but it was recession).  In hindsight, we were either too bold or too stupid to have started the business at that time and in that way.

My Career

I’ve worked as: Accountant, Sales Rep, Sales Manager, Product Manager, Business Anlayst, Project Manager, Lecturer and Operations Manager. Currently, I look after the operations side of Digital Armour.
